:newbie:

I currently have a 55g with 1 clown pleco 1 devil pleco and 1 hujeta gar. the gar is the biggest at about 2.5 inches. I went today to the LFS just to look around but unfourtunatly bought a fish. i got a knight goby. the LFS told me it was freshwater so i thought i would get it since it looked cool. I came home and started to look up on it, which i should have done before i purchased it (newbie mistake):duh: . I found out that it is a brackish fish and will do best with some salt.

My ?s are :

What is the best salt to make the tank brackish?

Will the other tankmates be able to live in those water conditions with salt?

Will i have to change mysubstrate from gravel to sand?

Has anyone had experience with knight gobys ( fan dancer gobys)?

to make Brackish water you need Marine salt. The other fish cannot live in brackish water. You can use gravel, but the gobie prefers sand because it is a sand sifter.

Marine salt. You can't use table salt or anything like that. Marine salt will buffer the wate also, for a brackish tank, most fish will appreciate the water being hard and alkaline. To measure the level of salinity you will need either a hydrometer or refractometer,

Will the other tankmates be able to live in those water conditions with salt?

Most certainly not.

Will i have to change mysubstrate from gravel to sand?

It certainly wouldn't hurt.

I've kept quite a few brackish gobies, but I haven't kept Knight's (yet)
