Need to know if I'm doing this right when trying to calculate total head pressure:

1. from pump outlet to return on left side is 2ft HORIZONTAL and 6ft VERTICAL
2. from pump outlet to return on right side if 6ft HORIZONTAL and 3ft VERTICAL

Based on the above and not accounting for any 45 degrees (which I have two), no 90 degrees, etc...just based on the above...would my total head pressure be:

1. 6ft
2. 9ft
3. 17ft

Trying to side this accordingly for new pump and I'm not sure if I should be counting the horizontals and also whether I should be counting BOTH sides of my return or just the one...?

thanks.

We need to know what pump your using, the GPH it has for the output...What overflow system are you using? is it bulkheads on a drilled tank or an overflow box??

P.S...Welcome to Aquaria Central....Great to have you here...

well...the pump..that's what I'm trying to figure out..what pump I need to get me 1200GPH flow rate after all that head loss.

I used a headloss calculator that's on (I believe either reefs.org or someother place) - prob. is it doe snot list my pump and therefore the values it spits out are not accurate since they're based on the selected pump's curve. it does however, which is neat, account for friction loss based on pipe size, turns, elbows, splits, etc...example, using that calculator and selecting a blueline HD 100, it tells me my head loss is 24ft...unfortuantely, while this is ONE of the pumps I'm considering (same as the panworld 250ps) I'm also considering the Reeflo pumps...which are not listed, so it's hard to know what the actual head loss is...

so what I was going to do, is take my total head loss in tubing length and add 5ft to account for anything else, like the pump variable, but honestly, I'm not sure how accurate that would be...

thoughts...

oh yes, as for overflow, there are two overflows, one on each side of the tank (its an all glass tank) which are 1" each (hence the 1200GPH flow rate needed) and the returns are 3/4". Inside I also have (2) koralia 4's just to move the water around in the tank to avaoid stagnant water...

it's a pre-drilled tanks with bulkheads, going to a lifereef.com LF2-300 wet-dry filter.

it's a fish only tank - also have 200lbs of live rock.
