I just realized something: I can get the Eheim 2215 Classic, rated 90 Gallons, for $89.99 and the media for an additional $46.46, to make a total of $136.45. Or I could buy the Eheim 2026 Professional II Filter with Media for $149.99, an extra $13.54. The shipping amount is already topped out so that is not an issue. Also note that the Eheim Professional has tons of other features, self-priming, flow valves, auto valve release... not to mention the media, which I assume they are suppling me with all the media I need.

I need an answer quickly, I am purchusing it soon.
Also, should I buy more media, and if so, what should it be? The reason I ask is becuase I have already topped out my shipping costs, so I would not incur any more by buying anything else. I have heard people say about using some bio-balls, but I would like to stick to the Eheim Media, in spite of the extra cost, becuase I am just starting to use canister filters.

If you can, get the 2026. I bought one a few days ago, and it was a dream to setup and start up. Much easier to prime than my fluvals.

go to www.bigalsonline.com and they sell the 2215 for 90 with the media. saves alot of money. however, the classics are a pain to take apart after having them in use. Once you get them situated tho, they are fine.

the problem with taking them apart is that they dont have a shut off valve thing like the new models, so you have to use the extra valves that come with it. they connect to the hose. when you disconnect the valves from eachother, you have some hose hanging off the canister. then, when you open the canister, it overflows with the water from the hoses.

to decrease this problem I just positioned the valves really close to the canister.

Don't assume the Pro II 2026 comes with all the media unless it states that it does or you ask them if it does. I say this because from looking into purchasing the same filter I have found out that it usually does not contain the neccessary media unless mentioned. That being said, if it does come with media, I would definitely buy the 2026 for that little more.

Alright, thanks everyone. A little short on time now, so I will try to be quick.

A was looking at al those things at bigalsonline.com and the Classic is sold as an Eheim 2215 Classic Plus Kit, so I assume 'Plus kit' implies that it contains media? This is the one someone mentioned was sold for $90 I believe, but it doesn't say, "Media Included" in the specific terms that the Pro II does. Anyway, I assume the supplied media is what I want, and enough of what I want as I dont know anything about canisters... how often do I need to change the media with smaller fish such as tetras, and should I order more media now while it wont cost me any additional shipping costs? Also, I have heard people complain about the Eheim being difficult to service without disrupting the biological media - would it be worth it for me to buy a Fluidized Bed filter for an additional $30 and not have to worry about the Eheim for anything other then mechanical filtration?

Thanks,

Really, cool.

Instead of getting a canister filter, why dont you get a SUMP? they are cheaper and ALOT BETTER! in my opinion....
