Help diagnosing...

Interesting... this is from your tap? I guess I would test the water straight from the tap and compare or the leftover water must've been pretty high to begin with. I'm guessing your test kit is ok, since you gave readings earlier from another tank and they were ok. Usually water changes do the trick, but do them a little at a time, over time (over a few hours) and it won't be so stressful to the fish. Just make changes slowly. Good job on the Melafix, but hold off a day until you get the nitrates straightened out, otherwise, you'll just be diluting what you're dosing. When you start it up again, you should see some improvement over the next few days. You may want to drop the air line in even until you get an airstone. Not tryin' to make ya feel bad here, but think about how it might feel if you were only huffing and puffing a little bit compared to yesterday. ;)

Now my pearl gourami has a white sore on his nose just like the one on the Dwarf Gourami. What should i do!? I don't want to have to tear down this whole tank and i can't move him to the hospital tank while the dwarf is there since i think they will fight in the small space. i am thinking about putting down the dwarf so that I can try to treat the pearl and save him, but i am so worried that the rest of my fish are going to get this disease too...whatever it is. WHAT SHOULD I DO?

ALSO, the Dwarf Gourami's eyes are now noticibly bulging out of his head and he is more or less laying down on the bottom of the tank. He looks like he is done for. Is there anything I can do for him at this point? Clove Oil?

Well heck. I'm confused about these "white spots". Are we talkin' parasites now? The treatment would be different (i.e. Pimafix). Sometimes you just get stuck having to treat the main tank. At the rate it's going, it might not be a bad idea. The most important thing is to figure out what's going on so as to provide the correct treatment, but also to correct what is causing the problem in the first place.

that's exactly what i'm trying to do...figure out what the problem is to stop it from spreading or atleast knowing how to treat future outbreaks. the white sores look sort of like a small chunk of missing flesh. it is a discoloration just between the eyes, it has an irregular shape. slightly indented i think. it looks like a wound healing, but on the dwarf it never really healed. maybe that is all it is, a wound and the dwarf just got infected and maybe the pearl won't. the dwarf had that markfor quite some time and then overnight he went from looking slightly worse to full blown bloody gills and big puffy sores. and then bulging eyes. and the latest is that he died today while i was at work. :(
i'm just glad he isn't suffering anymore, though he died alone :(
poor little fish. it's sad because his fins were all beat up badly and they had finally healed up nicely when he took the dramatic turn for the worse.

so now i need to figure out what this is and what to do to treat it. if anyone knows what causes bloody gills, fins, puffy eyes, and rotting looking wounds, i'd love to know so i can treat this in the future.

It's hole in head disease I think. There is one member here that is really good with that stuff, post a thread with new pics if you have them and ask if it is hole in head or lateral line erosion.

racingjason could be right, since you mentioned a small chunk of missing flesh and if you are certain that fighting is not the issue again. Check out the link below. There are some pic's, details and additional links in the item to help. Sorry to hear you lost the one fishy. Hopefully, we can all nail down this problem and correct it.
