*HELP* DISCUS sitting on tank bottom

The Only med I have is QC but I can stop at the LFS and see if they got some? I have a 75G that has nothing in it but clean up guys - I could move him there and treat him there is its needed. Should I also do salt baths in addition to the move and treatment? I was going to check him out when I get home and make a decision on what I will do then.

I remember your post about fluks, I do have some prime if its needed.

Should I keep temp the same if I need to move him? UMMMM - MAYBE he will be better when I get home? He seemed better last night after he ate but WHO knows.

Hi. I had a neighbor ring the bell so I didn't finish my previous post. Here's the rest:

You can do daily salt dips (the link with directions for a salt dip I gave at the beginning) and place him back into QT in clean water, or into QT containing Quick Cure, but what cleaners do you have in that 75? Don't know if they can tolerate QC except at 1/2 dose. Also, that'd be a lot of medication to put into a 75, whether QC or Prazi Pro. Adding salt to the water in the QT most likely won't be effective, as flukes have been shown to be resistant these days to regular sized doses of salt and again, can your cleaners take salt? Salt dip doses are much higher, but you couldn't keep the Discus in that amount of salt long term. There's even a "super ich" that has developed and has shown up in Discus tanks in 86 - 88 degree water and it has been resistant to the good old fashioned salt treatment too!

How big is this Discus? I would go with the 10 gal. tank and do frequent, even daily 50% WCs and replace any med that was removed with the WC. If you opt to do salt dips and place him into clean water with no QC, you can use your 10 gal. to do the dip and your 75 for QT.

Or, you can just continue with WCs in your main tank and give it a few more days to see if it clears up. Its possible his gills may just be irritated and a few more days in nice, clean water may be just what's needed.

Oh, the reason I'm asking for the size of this Discus is that unless its a juvie, you have some time on your side. If he's let's say 4" or bigger, flukes are not an immediate danger to him. Flukes can take down a juvie much quicker. You have time to order Prazi Pro if that's what you'd like to use, or time to order any other med like Parasite Clear (worked well for me), Fluke Tabs (harsher), Clout (very harsh). Main thing is - don't panic.
 
OK - I am calm - This guy is like 6" or Larger and he looks good except for the occasional clamped fin and the gill breathing thing. I think I will do another 50% water change right now and watch for a few days. If I wanted to do a series of treatment what would you recomend for a good med to try?

Seems like from your erlier post maybe QC or Prazi Pro or Parasite Clear???

I'd start with Prazi Pro first. Its gentle on the fish and easy to use. I'd prefer to see the fish treated in a 20 or 30 gal. tank rather than the 10, but the 10 is preferable to the 75. You'd go broke buy the med! You'll need to keep a close eye on your water quality. The fish may lose some appetite, too, but a Discus that size can go for a long time without food. Also, Discus that size can go for a long time living with flukes, too.

The instructions are on the bottle as far as frequency of dosing but I'd extend the treatment longer, for at least 2 weeks, just to make sure you got rid of them, otherwise they can reappear. If necessary, 1-1/2 times the dose can be safely used.

See how it works and if there's no improvement, there's always Plan B, C, D, etc. People have had good results with Life Bearer by API which is a fast acting fluke med. Again, its harsher and can't be used with any scaless fish in the tank. Also the other meds already listed have worked. Keep in mind that lots of people are struggling with flukes these days, since they've become so resistant to the meds out there and to salt too.
 
I can get a 20 to 30 ish tank from a Bud of mine. I will go order some Prazi Pro and start from there. He looks good / they all do - starting to eat better each day and Looks like the breathing is a little better. I just did a 120G change so I wana go do some test now. Thanks for all the help - I am verry thankfull for all of you!

You can just do a google search for Prazi Pro and it will come up. I think the last bottle I bought was from www.bigalsonline.com because at the time they had the best price. Even if you just stick with WCs for now and things get better, Prazi Pro is good to have on hand. Gill flukes and Discus seem to be a fairly common combo, especially if they get stressed.

If you can get a 20 from a friend, that's great. But before you use it, make sure to fill it up and add some bleach then wipe it down good, glass, the rim and under the rim. Drain, rinse and let it air. If it still smells of bleach, refill and add some dechlor then drain.

It would be good to have a 20 of your own on hand for QT/hospital use.

I'd love to see pics of them!
 
I just wanted to add that After last Nights WC my PH is stable and still 7.6 and the Nitrate has worked its way down to below .5 PPM. They look good!!!!

Seems like they are slowly improving and I am seeing less clamping and easier breathings from both gills!

These First pics are from the BIG snake that was giving me the most problems!
