Help!!! Emergency!

i have a female guppy who looks like she has dropsy, her scales are all sticking out and she is at the top of the tank at water line. what do i do?????



All others look ok

BTW, 20ppm nitrate, 0ppm nitrite, 150gh, 300+kh, and 8.2/8.4ph

all normal for all my tanks, she had not been acting weird, happned within the past 4hours or so.

she is eating, others look bloated could be pregnant but gravid spots are not as dark as previous ones.

Come on, i am worried, i have melafix and quick cure and salt and marcyn on hand, any ideas?

Ive never had to deal with dropsy, but id quarintine (if possible), and medicate with somthing for Dropsy. I don't think salt would work in this case, so your best bet are meds.

Eidt: Just remember to remove the carbon, and do 20% water changes every second or thrid day for atleast a week.

I had a platy with dropsy. I treated it with maracyn-two. It did get betterto the point that i thought it was looking normal. But it did die about 6 weeks after I treated it.I would plan on long process for it to get back to normal.

ok, i took my betta to the 40gal, took the sick guppy to the now old betta tank, hoping this is not caused by a bacteria and will not be spread. watching the other guppies, did a 20% water change on the other guppies. Question how do i do a water change on a tank that a gravel vac wont fit into not even the small gravel vac?? once i know that i will do a water change on that tank as well. and what temp would be a good temp for the sick and possibly hopefully not sick guppies?

oh and will she be ok until i can the maracyn two tomorrow, it is 11pm my time so they are not open (there is only one fish store by me that sells it). What shoudl i be looking for in the other tank for signs of the same problem but with a chance to save it?

Ok, dropsy is a fungus, and fungus is HIGHLY contageous. If you have a hospitol tank, drop it in there. Get it away from that fungus. Some people say salt is a deterent, but when my fish had fungus problems, it only made his condition worse. Put it in HT, and tomorrow go get some fungus eliminator from Jungle. Yellow powder, clears up in hours.

*not to scare you, but if you let the disease get so far that she's breathing heavily near the top of the tank, all you can do is pray that she lives till tomorrow.*

Also, is it in the guppy's gills?

A good way to siphon a small tank is with a turkey baster. Hope your fish gets better.

Dropsy is not always caused by a fungus and is not always contagious.

I'm sorry to report that in my experience, once it gets to the point when the fish is really bloated and the scales are sticking out, there's not much hope for survival. Sorry.
