So I decided today to give my filter a thorough cleaning. It's an Eheim 2213 canister filter.

After putting everything back together and setting it back up there is a slow leak between the output of the filter head (the top of the canister) and where it connects to output tubing. What I'm talking about is the little spout like thing that you push the tubing on to and then tighten it on there with the nut-like thing (I don't know the terms for any of this stuff).

I thought maybe the tubing was just old, so I tried replacing it, but that didn't fix the issue. I don't really know what I should try next. I know the nut-thing is very tight, so that's not the issue. The tubing is on there securely too.

Any thoughts?

take the tube off the nozzle wipe it clean and apply a little vaseoline all around the nozzle not a lot just a little and slide the hose back on and tighten it that should stop your leak.

any substitute for vasoline? I don't know if I have nay lying around lol

Well apparently the issue was that the nozzle was cracked, b/c the freaking thing just broke off.

Anyone know if/how this falls under warranty info? I've only had the filter since this past July

is this something they'll replace, though, or am i going to have to buy a new head?

You might want to try superglue as a temporary fix. I am pretty sure the fitting is part of the cover that surrounds the pump head. If you have the owners manual, see if that part is numbered separately & can be purchased.

Depending on where you bought it, they make accept it for exchange. Be sure to contact Customer support first though.

I'll try that, although I'm guess it's going to leak.

Luckily, the motor unit is not one piece. There is the actual motor unit and then there is a cover, which is what the nozzle piece is attached to. That cover is only about $10-$15, which is a whole lot better than the $40 I was worried I'd have to shell out for a whole new motor unit.

I'll call them tomorrow and see what they have to say.

thanks all :)

I'd like to hear how the CS dept. handles this. I'm thinking of buying an Eheim, soon.

You should find your receipt and call to find out your warranty status. If your going to fix it you need to buy a new part. If your going to DIY fix it gluing the part back on with glue will not work, brake off and flood your house unless you use an inside or outside piece of replacement tubing to overlap and support the damaged piece. I would use a waterproof glue like Gorilla Glue which will exspand and fill in the overlap.

This may however make your shut off valve inoperable but should be a solid fix that will allow the filter to work without worry. If you have doubts or don't understand what I'm talking about it means you don't have enough learned skill to fix it using this method and are much better off getting the replacement part then trying to do your own DIY fix on a potential flooding and water damaging canister.
