Help! Fish jumped out of tank!

Melafix is probably fine to use in the main tank..It's the stronger antibiotics that you want to stay away from. The Melafix should help his fins to heal..just keep an eye on him for awhile and try not to disturb him too much..let his immune system take care of him and keep close tabs on the water parameters.(ammonia, nitrites, etc)

Thanks to everyone for their help! I will keep you posted on his condition.

I will probably respond again on Monday.

It occurred to me that I never mentioned how big he is or how old! Just so you have a better picture of my fishy, he is a good 6-inches long and I have had him for almost 4 years now (since he was only 2-inches long).

He really has a personality too. He loves to antagonize my two cats and he always gets excited when I come home, I guess because he knows he is gonna be fed! Hopefully, he will be back to normal in no time!!!

Thanks again!!! Have a great weekend! :)

Lars is up and swimming! He even ate a little bit today.

His fins look all tore-up and on one side of his body, there is an area where it looks like his protective coating is coming off his skin and hanging loose. It is a pretty large area.

To be honest I don't know much about fish (isn't it obvious), I inherited him from an ex.

Anyway, should I keep treating him with the melafix for now?? Hope the patch on his side is not a fungus, it doesn't look like cotton, it looks more like goo lifting from his skin. Gross huh?

At least he is up and about and not on his side anymore! :)

Awesome:cool: ..he is getting better. Just continue to use the Melafix until he is well. Congrats.

I sadly have to announce that Lars died on Dec. 6th.

Thing is, I came home on Friday the 5th and he was completely white, breathing heavily and unable to swim. He was perfectly fine that morning!

It seems that his fins were healing, but the infection(?) on his side had progressively gotten worse. I thought *that* was getting better too, but when I came home on Friday evening, his side was open and raw looking.

I thought that maybe he would pass away during the night, but in the morning he was still the same, I could even say worse. He was swimming all over the tank hitting himself on the walls and rocks extremely hard. I couldn't watch anymore. It was obvious that he was suffering.

I had to do what I had to do ...
:sad

Sorry to here that. Since I hadn't seen you write in awhile I was hoping that he had made it and was happy swimming around. :(
