Help getting rid of BBA

i know that tropical isle in framingham has P test kits. but with the amount of gas you would use on the way there you would be better off paying shipping.

How old are the light bulbs, and what size are they,T8,T5?What is the kelvin rating of the bulb?Does your fixture have more than 1 bulb?Does any sunlight get into the tank? What kind of plants do you have and do you have any pictures?

You said the algae started almost immediately when you upgraded your lighting, what was the lighting before, and did you even try plants with that lighting?Does your CO2 stay on even when the lights are out?

I would give Excel a try.I use it in all my planted tanks whether they are lowlight without CO2,or medium/highlight with CO2.

I bought this in the middle of April, It is the single 55w ahsupply kit with reflector and 7800k bulb. This is it http://ahsupply.com/36-55w.htm

At one point I thought the green water was from in direct sunlight but I have blocked all my windows so no lights coming in my livingroom. .

This tank had the cheap all in one hood. It had a 17w bulb in it I think. Actually my sword plant actually grew in that light Better.

The C02 is on all day & night

Im not too good with names but i think amazon swords, anacharis, cambomba?, green hygro, onion plant, other small stems

Sorry if the picture is fuzzy. My good camera is in Florida on Vacation

How long are you leaving your lights on for? More often than not BBA is caused from too much light. Cutting your light back by a few hours a day can rid of it. Another good way to combat BBA is to get a siamese algae eater they are the only fish I know of that eat it. I have also been told by many people that Marimo Balls are great for getting rid of it. If I had to guess you did not put enough plants in the tank when u started. The 55w pcfl on a 29 gallon is not considered low light. Even though it is only 55 watts u have to look at the intensity the light puts out. You are actually looking at being able to grow high light stuff in your tank. I would recommend cutting your light back a few hours a day or getting some floating plants to help shade and absorb the excess nutrients until u can get more plants in the tank to compensate. Then u can slowly remove the floating plants.

Here is a picture of the plants package I put in there.

So I should only have my light on for 6 hours???

I was told a SAE would be way to big for my tank.
