help help! snail issues!! GAH!

I got 3 new snails at meijer (definately not a pet store) but I found something random and ugly swimming in the bag water. (it looked like a giant, dark brown, freshwater brine shrimp looking thingie.) theyve been in quarintine for 2 days now but I dont know how to tell if they are safe to put into my new tank.

what am I looking for? any ideas what it is? does anyone have a picture database??

More info on size, colour, etc.? The only thing I can think of offhand that looks like bigger brine shrimp is an amphipod, they can grow 12 – 15 mm.

Is it "leggy" or "feathery" like brine shrimp or more worm-like? If it's worm like I'd be concerned of leaches or flukes. If it's more shrimp-like I wouldn't necessarily be concerned. But then again if you have a few hundred $$ worth of fish why take a chance.
