My nitrate levels has increased drastically over the last week, did have a problem with low salinity and have performed a 75 litre water change, check today and the levels are 80 to 100 ppm, lots of the fish have died but I have removed them as soon as they have been discovered. Picture of my vampire tang that died, this went from normal to this in the space of 24 hours

I've tested the RO water from the shop, thats not a problem, showing as zero ppm, I have added reef buffer to bring the ph back to 8.3.

Any ideas? :help:

RIO 240
Deltec MCE 600

Other parameters? How low was the salinity, and how rapidly did you increase it? Low salinity won't cause high nitrates, unless it went so low as to kill the bacteria.

i had trouble with high nirates, like a lot of other people.i am using a product called az-no3. it is not a chemical and it works well.i am in the 18th day of a 30 day process.and my nitrates are down to less than 15 ppm.you must have a protein skimmer.

The water change, if the salinity and Ph change was abrupt, would have killed off a lot of inverts, including most snails... This by itself may account for the high nitrate content. The tank is cycling...

your nitrates are prob lowering because your cycle is half way though , i ahve tryed alot of products most dont work good old water changes work best
