I did a 50% w/c last night, added the salt (Using API Aquarium salt) and another dose of Prazi Pro. It says to wait 3 days between dosages before dosing again or using any other medication, so I will plan to re-dose on Tuesday assuming she still looks like this.
No change at this point. Still looks the same, and still acting fine. I did get a new heater in there because my old one crapped out, so I've got the heat up to about 82 F. The LFS guy said to turn the heat up, but didn't say to turn it up to anything specific. I had been keeping them at about 78 or 79, so I am assuming a couple of degrees is normally what the temp gets turned up to. I don't think I'm supposed to cook her, so I'll leave it as is for now unless told otherwise.
Any other suggestions, of course, are welcome. I am going to try to get pics today and post them.
CAN YOU SET UP Q/T? It doesnt have to be a tank. For smaller fish, you can use other container which can be hung to rim and inside the tank (no need for extra heater), such as Large Lee's Product Specimen Box or SuperKing Filter Box. You would also need small air pump with sair stone to gentle aeration.
Once you figure out the colume of water, you can cut the quantity of med according to the volume. This will also save money on med.
For example, If container hold gallon of water and med recommends 1 capsule for 10 G, I would just use 1/10 of a capsule, etc, etc.
Looks like columnaris to me, I'd bet on it. Def not fungus or parasitte. She'll do fine with some salt in the QT. Next time, (hopefully there won't be a next time) don't raise your temps. High temps accelerate the the growth of this bacteria. You were lucky this time that you caught it early and the fish was strong enough that raising the temps didn't exacerbate the infection. If you've got melafix, that will help he fight the infection. I wouldn't bother adding any more meds. The rest of the stuff is unnecessary. Mollies like salt in their water all the time, add a little to the main tank when she goes back in (~1tbsp per 10 gallons) if her tank mates can handle it. That will keep her healthy long term.
I am horrified by the guy at your LFS selling you prazi pro and that BS about cycling the water- this guy has NO IDEA what he's talking about. Don't go back there anymore.
Well that was a lot of work for nothing. Checked on the molly this afternoon and she's gone. Why? Not the spot - because the heater that the LFS sold me for $5 last night cooked her. It's as low as it goes, but the tank temp is over 92. I had checked it this morning and it was right about 80. The thermostat must have gone out on it.
Just makes me mad. They told me that the heater was in good working condition (used, but kept the tank the correct temp at their place). I needed a new heater because mine died (temp was down to about 68), and they did not have any new heaters to sell, but did have a used one. I figured it was a good deal. I guess I won't be doing that again. I called and they will be refunding both the heater cost and the prazi pro cost since I obviously don't need it anymore.
Just so frustrated. I was really hoping she was going to pull through.
I'm so sorry Rainbow, what a terrible thing to happen. You were trying so hard to help her. You were doing what you thought was the best thing for her. I wouldn't go back to that LFS.
