Hi,
I'm 2 weeks into cycling my tank and the ammonia levels are now down to zero, with Nitrites/Nitrates coming on well.

However...... last evening we spotted a creature in one of the plants, it was huge!

I looked like some kind of beetle/spider and we eventually managed to net it and take a photo.
This morning we found another coming out from the bogwood and also captured it.

I have posted some photos below, sorry if they are a bit 'close up' I felt it would help with IQ'ing them.

Many thanks in advance..

It looks like a dragonfly nymph.

:iagree: that's what it looks like to me too

by the way they are predators

Definitely a dragonfly. Looks like a libellulid, which in your area would most likely be a darter (Sympetrum) or chaser (Libellula).

Thanks for your ID's

I wonder how many more there are, they have survived well through the fishless cycle (adding pure ammonia) I wonder if they are now appearing because they were looking for food or to climb out!

Do you think this would be a problem if the tank finishes it's cycle soon and we add lots of fish?

wow cool looking bug , try and get pics as it grows interesting scenario not often you get a chance to see this
