Hate to plug another website, but www.aquarticles.com and www.thekrib.com are two awesome sites for dwarfs.

The basics that I have learned (have only kept A. cacatuoides, but are getting some A. pandorini soon) are as follows:

pH hard to get too low, but my cacs breed in 7.2 (they are known to be more tolerant of high pH than other apistos)
Temp 76-78
hardness cannot be to low (10ppm recomended for breeding)

Need lots of shale caves for hiding and breeding. The more you have the less time they spend in them (just having them makes them bolder)

Be ready to remove non dominant male once they work things out if they are going in anything smaller than a 55

check out those sites and good luck

another great site for apisto info is apistogramma.com. Some real heavies hang out there and there is a wealth of info.

Also, if you can find a copy of Uwe Romer's Mergus Cichlid Atlas Vol.1, you'd be square with almost any question. I went out and picked up a copy as I research for new tanks. Great resource.

Wow.. lots of talk about Apistos lately! That's so nice to see.

Borelli.. ahh tiny little borelli. Great fish, stay under 2" and most of mine were 1.5" or so. A five gallon will work for a pair believe it or not if you give them enough cover to fell secure (lots of plants).. that setup is NOT recommended for someone new to fishkeeping in general but an advanced hobbyists will be able to keep water quality good and the fish calm in that situation. Not for everyone, I must strongly say. Unglazed clay saucers (for plant pots) will work well as caves when propped up against driftwood (or more saucers). I had about six of them in a 20long living beautifully for a few years until I had to move for schooling.

They enjoy floating plants - frogbit worked great for me - and aren't as demanding as other Apistos with water quality. They are a whitewater fish, found more in floating meadows, mine did well in pH 6.6 and gH around 2 (conductivity about 150 uS/m).. that's what my spawning logs from '01 say at least. :)

These are getting their own tank, yes? Dithers for these I've used pencilfish - N. marginatus.
