My 29gal cichlid tank is at 90 degrees. I know it is the heater because it is cooler outside then the tank. I have only had the heater for about 8 months! And in the begining when i was first setting up my tank i had to replace it about 5 or 6 times. Do i need to get another heater? I called the pet shop and they told me that if i upluged it and then turned it back on it would reset itself. I tried that and it just stayed on. I have it totally unpluged right now to try and get the tank cooler.
Help it is urgent!!!!!!

Sounds like your heater is malfuntioning and staying in the on position. Best bet is to replace the heater. This will sometimes happen if the heater is cracked. After the heater has cooled down (never take a heater out of the tank that is still on or is still hot) look to see if it is cracked but unplug it first. If it is then there is the problem. Even if the heater is not cracked this can sometimes happen. Last April my heater did the same thing and I did not catch it in time. The tank heated up to 110 degrees and killled everything in the tank; fish, cories, live plants, everything. If I were you I would go out and get another heater.
