I keep getting snails all over my tank. I think that some plants (Java Fern) I put in my tank a couple weeks ago must have had eggs on them or something. I have a Moonlight Gourami, Long Fin Danios, 2 swordtails and a couple of Pleco's in a 55gal with a UGF, Pengin 550 power head on one of the lift tubes and a 400 Emperor filter. What can I get that will take care of the snails and be alright with the fish I currently have?

Cut back your feeding, and increase your water changes/gravel vaccuming to 2Xs per week of 50% changes. The snail explosion is a result of excess food wastes building up and gives them food, the more food the more they reproduce, so you need to remove that food source. To cut down on the immediate population you need to manually remove the adult/juvi snails that you see.

anchor a piece of lettuce on the bottom of the tank at night, in the morning just reach in and take it out. you may want to have a net handy, it should be covered in snails.

You could also consider QT'ing your plants, it should help you catch alot of the snails before they get to your tank
