ive seen somewhere online (cant remember where) about making a sponge filter from a 20 oz. coke bottle, a sponge (like a dish sponge) and an airstone.
has anyone made somthing like this, or does anyone have a link to somthing like it?

The ones that I've seen on line amount to using the bottle as a filter body with a piece of rigid tubing run down to near the bottom. The way it works is to put the rigid tube in so there's a water path at the end of the tube, fill the bottle around the outside of the rigid tube with media and cap it off with a sponge to hold everything in place. Put a bubbler / air stone near the bottom of the rigid tube and turn on the air. The air bubbles moving up through the tube carry water with them and the water is replaced by flowing through the sponge and filter media to near the bottom of the bottle.
I don't remember where I saw it either but it was that simple.

ok cool. i got a new air pump ( a whisper rated for 30-60 gallons) and wanted to make something like that. even tho sponge filters are cheap, i like to make things myself if i can.
