Help me convince my friend his tank set ups are wrong!!!!!

Buy him a nice pet rock.

And some purple string :)

If he's reading up he's getting there. Once you know what fish need to be kept alive and happy it's actually pretty hard to give them less. With luck all the fish he has will survive until that time comes.

Also, cories, a betta, and, say, 6 neon tetras can survive in a 10 gallon tank with adequate filtration and proper maintenance. However, with this individual you should advise to get one or the other.

ok so he got the tank and set it up with some neons, the betta and a few gold finned tetras?????? and apparently the betta is attacking the neons but not the gold fins? any thoughts

Our betta is in with cardinals with no issues. It could be due to the size of tank, ours is 100 gal.

Let me get this straight, he got a new tank, set it up and dumped a betta, tetras and something else in it?

Any possible hope that he pulled that filter off a cycled tank?

Any snowballs chance that he has a liquid test kit, or even dip sticks?

They are doing some lovely things with quartz and googly eyes this year. Even a nice feldspar and some pipecleaners can be charming.

his previous tanks had no filter.... this set up he got came with one..... im gunna give him some of my bacteria stuff for cycling a tank

but he swears its the betta attacking them

Bettas can go after bright or dark colors and anything with longer fins. They're not too bright when it comes to determining what is and is not an invading male. IMO male bettas, unless given a vast amount of space, do best by themselves or with a non fish tankmate that is too big for them to eat. Less stress for them, less stress for other fish. Mine is with an ADF, but they pretty much just leave each other alone except at feeding time. Both get frozen blood worms or brine shirmp and my ADF doesnt like to share. usually a flare will get her to be a good froggie though.
