I voted for all one kind. I know that the color variations are delightful but all one color is often a striking display in any tank of any size. If you ever decide you want to breed the discus it also means that you will have proper control of the resulting offspring and not a grab bag.

Hey snoopy, I have had the following combo in my 75g for 1.5 years now:
one santarem, one cobalt blue, one brilliant, one red turq, and one blue diamond. All were stendker from Hans.
I would personally go with 4 cobalts and 4 brilliants if it was me. I love the colors of these fish together. I personally would go with natural colors in my tank (decorations and background) so they stand out amongst the plants but that is just my preference. water changes will be a must for growing out the 2-3" ones and they may get a little lost in that size of a tank for growing out, ask Hans about that he will tell ya. The thing about discus being color smart seems to be true for me as well, my blue ones stay together and the brown santarem is kinda exiled most of the time. My cobalt has paired with a red turq female and now paired with the brilliant one. If you can afford it go with 8 - 10 discus, maybe the following would work:
2 flachen
2 snake
2 cobalt
2 brilliant
2 red turq
If you try this you could see which you like best and sell or give away the ones you dont want down the road.

Its really hard to decide so have fun and good luck. If I could afford it I would have some wilds of the same type. 6 just like Dan on SD has.

Thanks for the input guys. I keep going around in circles! I think I have narrowed it down to a choice of 4 types, brilliant turquoise, red turquoise, flachen (solid turquoise), and cobalt. I know I want the brilliants and the reds, I am thinking 3 of each. Then 2 of one of the solid colors, I just can't decide which.......I have determined this much, when spending this much money on fish, it is hard to finalize choices. I keep what iffing myself.

Just be careful snoopy, keeping discus is dangerous, they are so addicting you just want more and more. You will end up with a pair and soon you will have 100s of little ones to take care of, which are gonna eat you out of house and home!!
Did you see the pic of the carnation cross that kenny has been selling now, crazy colors!

No I hadn't seen those. They are BEAUTIFUL!! I figure in the long run, IF I can keep them well, I will have more! I want to make sure I am able to before I go dropping the kind of money I would have to spend on Kenny's fish. There are quite a few of his that I have seen on SD that I think are just gorgeous. But, with shipping, they are out of my price range right now.
