Help me id, or find parts for this filter.

So I traded some of the 25 cichlids that came with the tank I bought for an aquarium and a filter. From what I can find the filter is a pf450g made by otto. The sticker has OT on it and says tai girm aquarium corp. I get Otto by googling PF450G. Anyway its missing some fittings, and the hoses. Take a look and see if this looks like some kind of standard thread. It has a collar that stays on the filter which turns and draws the removable parts of the fitting in. Hopefully its something I can find at the hardware store to save some dough. I kind of like the design of the filter, it has 3 chambers that I can put whatever I want in them. IMO your best bet is to tuck the lid under your arm and go to Home Depot or Lowes hose and fitting department and try some fittings and adapters to see if you can come up with something standard.

But first Id fill it with water to see if it pumps well if at all, otherwise you be buying hose and fittings for a worn out pump.

Yes I have tried going to the hardware store. I can not find any thing similar to this. I have bought 2 double male barb fittings that I will epoxy in as a last resort. I wish I could test it, but without any hoses I can't make it pump anything.

On a similar note I have a penguin 125 filter which I got free, the impeller does not make any bad noises but it pumps very little water. Does this mean the impeller is bad?

Well your probubly the only one having the canister in front of you what your best course of action is for makeshift parts or modifications. I certainly cant find anything on it except that Otto is out of Taiwan and makes some of the knock-off filters you see on eBay. A good reason to consider not buying them I suppose. But you can still test the pump by filling the canister with water in the tub and plunging it in. If water shoots up like a fountain for a few seconds that's a good sign, if not then there are more issues.

I found a australian web site with these for sale shows a pic of how they look complete you might email them and ask if they can tell you where to get the parts your missing.

I found that same sight but no parts, even the Otto company sight out of Taiwan had no parts. But it couldn't hurt to call them and do some tracking down.

You should also try a plumbing store that home builders deal with if there's one near you. They usually have rarer fittings that Lowe's/Home Depot do not carry.

Now that's a great idea. A good established pluming store would also have great expertise to ID what would fit at a glance.
