What type of fish is this? When I first got this fish I thought it was a Labidochromis caeruleus but now I don't think so.

its a yellow lab.

some info

The Electric Yellow African Cichlid is also known as the Yellow Lab or Electric Yellow Lab and gets its rather unusual name as a result of its brilliant yellow coloration, setting it apart from other cichlids. Considered a new species and referred to commercially as Labidochromis tanganicae, this cichlid lives in the waters of Lake Malawi between the islands of Charo and Mbowe. First displayed at Burundi in the early 1980's and exported from there, the Electric Yellow was mistakenly believed to come from Lake Tanganyika. Small Electric Yellows will often not show the vivid black striping on the fins until they mature and age.
A peaceful and shy cichlid when compared to the temperament of other African Cichlids, Electric Yellow would be considered semi-aggressive in a standard fresh water aquarium. The aquarium should include a sandy bottom, robust plants, caves, and rocks.

The female lays her eggs on the surface of rocks and then scoops them into her mouth where they brood for 18 days before being released.

The Electric Yellow Lab needs both meaty foods and greens such as brine shrimp, blood worms, and quality flake or pellet food containing vegetable matter.

i dont think they are

The almost total lack of black markings on the two male pictures suggests he is actually a yellow lab hybrid. They are commonly sold as 'yellow yellows' and are really crosses with red zebras. This is done to try to bring out an even more yellow color. I think they are doing this just because the quality of yellow labs is so diminished out there that they are not as yellow anymore, so breeders are trying to get the yellow back by crossing them with red zebras.

The female in the middle looks pretty good though.

Unless you have a confirmed reliable source for these fish I would not breed them, just incase.... since the male looks a little suspicious.

The lack of black markings is what had me suspicious to begin with, Oh well. He does look nice though. Guess I'll just be releasing the Fry into the tank and see if any survive.

the male is not Labidochromis caeruleus. it may be a hybrid cross of Estherae and something else but note the lack of any black 'trim' markings and the elongated 'face'. definitely not a 'yellow lab', so yes -- any fry you may have from these fish are hybrids.
