help me to bring my pollips back

:dive2: please, help. i have bad algae problem that started few weeks ago over overfeeding my corals. i brought it down by taking it out, changing the water, adding phosphorate removing media. but my pollips don't look good. i started adding vitamin C and few pollips came out, but in a better looking area. how do i regaenarate my pollips back to normal? i heard it's possible, but don't know how. somebody recomended to to put 10 drops of 10% iodine in 3 gallons of water and dip pollips trougout the day that would kill all algae and then rub dry vitamin C on it to promote heeling and grouth of pollips. but i can't find 10% iodine without alcohol of some type in it and can't find dry vitamin C. anybody has done pollip recovering suxcesfully? please tell me how you did it.
 
Um, it sounds like it's time to slow down a bit.

What kind of polyps are they? What about them looks wrong?

What kind of phosphate remover did you use? Alumina-based products will irritate the corals, so that may be the cause of the problem.

The iodine and vitamin C treatments are more likely to stress the corals to death than they are to help them. Just do a water change, add some activated carbon, and make sure the polyps get good circulation, and they should recover.
 
it's a green star pollip. i used ROWA phos(PO4 and SiO2 Adsorber) to remove phos. 2 weeks ago all kind of algae was covering my pollips and 1 week ago my pollips stoped comming out. in many spots where they hid the areas looked black even after removing the algae, some areas turned into dust and nothing was there anymore but a rock. i've been having more and more responce since i started adding vitamin C, more and more pollips are comming out, but i fear that the algae that is still on it with time will turn them into dust too, and i can't get it off.
 
You should try fixing what ever is causing your water issues. The algae needs nutrients to survive are you useing ro water?. You might also consider adding more snails or other herbivours to help clean up the tank a bit. Tell us a bit more about your set please how much live rock , substraight etc.

Maybe try to do a few water changes (3-4 over a two week period) to get all of that stuff your putting in there out as well as getting some of the doc's out of there as well. :idea:
 
Yes, you guys are right. my pollips are comming out, but i do need to get rid of the algae that killed some of them and still on my poor pollips. where is the best place to put pollips. should i put it closer to the top and in better flow area while i have algae problem?
 
Maybe, so I wouldn't do much though other than making sure that they aren't over grown. You don't want to stress them out more than they already are. What sort of clean up crew do you have in your tank? Can you also tell us a bit more about your set up? Tank size ,age , substraight etc?
 
my pollips are comming off the rock on the sides, but I don't know what to do. I have 40 gallon tank, but not that much of live rock, because I don't know how many pounds I need. I have about 3-4 inches of live sand. I have a bubble coral, 4 small feather dusters, brain coral, grape coral, yellow pollips, 1 sifting star, 4 emerald crabs that I'm going to give away because they mess with my pollips, I gave away one that was messing with my bubble coral, lownmover blenny, yellow tang, clown fish. The tank is 2 years old, but I just started with corals, which look very good at the moment, and my feather dusters picked up on growing, they are getting big fast.
 
How are your water readings looking . I don't know if you have any other sort of filtration in your tank or not but, that what live rock will do for you. There is a chace that the whole colony might have been so stresssed that it won't make it . I hope not but all you can really do is keep it clean keep things stable and leave it alone. I really do wish you the best and hope that you keep us posted.

i have been doing water changes, my pollips liked clean fishtank, so they are starting looking better, even though i lost some of them, others started to come out in places where i didn't see them before. they look like they just got born, or i'm not sure what it is that they do. i'm very happy with them. my algae problem is also not such a big problem anymore. i still have a long way to go, but it's not as bad as it was before. thanks to all the help. now if i just get my yellow tang to eat i'll be even happier.
