Anyway, slapping the tank is probably the best way to get them to move as fast as possible in any given direction...
Baiting them probably won't work as reliably as scaring the bejeezus out of them. :p

Hmm.... I was under the impression that slapping or pecking the side of the tank was potentially harmful to the fish... <thinks of being underwater when someone does a cannonball in the pool...>

Certainly the fry to be tested would have to be in a seperate tank, spare the other fish the noise. The sonic boom method ain't great for 'em, but it's probably the only way to get a controlled burst of maximum speed.

True happychem, but then even if the fish is swimming around they are most likely not swimming at full potential...

IMO the fish would swim to near max speed and would easiestly(word?) be measured by the flow of water.

airline tubing isnt a bad idea, but the fish wont swim to full speed i wouldnt think

so what do you guys guess thier max speed to be? compared to? BB GUN? sling shot? baseball throwing? underwater launch missle pad? miles per hours?!

I would venture a guess at around seventeen miles per hour. Probably no where near a bb gun, sling shot, or baseball pitch. (Unless I was the pitcher...I'd be lucky to even get it to the plate) However, I doubt that they could maintain that speed for any length of time. I could be way off, I'm no good with math. Their max 'burst' speed could be upwards of thirty miles per hour.

have you ever seen a tiny platy baby been chased by a tiger barb! they rae way fast! you will see! expirament in progress! shot glass grenade! jupital plungal!

hey mister sherklock homes, i think it is you that needs teh life! i am just trying to do some damned researching here, shoo!

All I know is that between Spankin' Fish and shooting them out of
