Help me with light upgrade....

My 75gal has PC lights. Looking to upgrade to MH. The lights/canopy are coming. The bulbs are 3 250 watt bulb. I have only about 188 watts of PC over my tank now. How should I acclimate coral to new light??

PS--New canopy will not have PC lights, just MH bulbs.

Install the new fixture and shorten the photoperiod to 6 hours for the first few days then increase the photperiod by an hour every 3 days.
All will be well this way. Take your time and go slow until you get back to 10-12 hours.

This is probably the safest way to acclimate them, since you are actually gradually increasing the intensity itself.

Both ways work.
I use timers cuz I am a busy guy.

As long as you don't witness any bleaching you will be fine. If you notice something losing color, move it to a dimmer part of the tank and let it heal.

When I switched from PCs to T5 HO, I started with only a 4 hour photoperiod and increased it by one hour every two weeks until back to a full lighting schedule. No problems at all. The multiple layers of screen method works well form what I've seen with other people's tanks.
