Help me with new tank

Hello,

I have a new 10 gallon tank, and I believe I have two pregnant fish. I am wondering what the duration of there pregnancy is? I was smart enough to seperate them in a breeder, but not positive if they are pregnant. Both have black sacks in there belly, and I am not sure what type of fish they are. Can anyone help me through this process, and also tell me why the ph level in the tank is always high, even though I put ph correctors in all the time. Appreciate the help

First off, welcome to AC!

HeHe, congrads on the fish. But we have a problem here, the pH. What is the pH now? Chances are its fine with out using the chemicals. They cause more problems than good things.

For the fish..maybe a guppy or platy? Google those, and look the pics. Tell us if its anyone of those. And do you know about the cycle?

I googled and found out I have two platy's, so now that we have figured out what type of fish I have can we figure out if they are pregnant and how long they will be this way lol. Thanks again

Do you have them in a breeder box/net right now? Placing them in too soon can cause the fish to abort. Breeder boxes/net are not the ideal thing for the pregnant fish either, I think it restricts the movement of the mother too much. For my own platies, I let the mother birth in the big tank, but I didn't have enough cover for the fry to hide, so I netted the fry before the other fish could eat them, and placed them in a breeder net temporarily (until the new tank is cycled to place the adults in.)

In terms of figuring out if your platies are actually pregnant, you should see a darker spot in front of the ventral fin. The spot will be more noticable as the pregnancy progresses. Otherwise, you could just wait it out and see what happens.

Thank you for the information it's very enlightening and stuff I wouldn't have known. I was worried about the females movement in this small breeder, and I don't know if it's too soon. I will take her out for now and get more plants for the babies to hide. Thanks again appreciate the help! :hi:
