Help! My discus are looking weird, and I think they are sick! HELP!!!!

100% agree with this last post. The discus I have seen at the LFS never impressed me until one opened up where the owner (his wife, particularly) specialized in discus. Wow, what a difference - night and day! Until you see a healthy discus, it's hard to see how unhealthy some are that get passed along. I agree that salt is incompatible in a discus tank, and aeration is great as long as they are not getting batted around by powerheads. This is where riverine fish like clown loaches, and discus, are not compatible...there is more to it than just "will they hurt each other?"...

^Thanks for the link:)

Actually, my amazing LFS, has discus that I would buy, especially some beautiful adults, they even sell breeding pairs. Their stock is amazing for both SW, and FW, inverts, etc. and the staff is very knowledgeable and very helpful. But everything there is pricey($200 for a breeding pair, $30 each for babies, and $50-$60 each for adults)

Would I still need to order in large quantities if I am treating in a 20G? Can I order the metro, and kanamycin, from amazon like in the lnks on this page or the other page. I'll take pics later, as I am really sore, I fell really badly at a skate park today, and my thighs/bottom is hurting a lot!;)

Thanks for the link again:)

Actually I agree on discus not being hard to keep, I feel like I am giving them the best care possible with the time I have as a 14 year old and the best care I can give at this age.

I will get pics early tomorrow(prob. not, as I am a late sleeper, and get up late) or after my bmx stuff at like around 4pm.

it is totally okay if you can't ship:)

Did you look at the sellers link in the previous post? It doesn't look like bad stock to me, or that might be a different seller, but the tanks and fish look around the same, and so does the location and price.

Yeah, I am leaning towards no salt either(no offense to sickbum), especially for my loaches. I have actually put aquarium salt crystals(1mm-3mm) in my tank, around 1/2 a cup once, and my loaches tried eating it, but no deaths, so not sure if I would do it again. I might try putting some in a cup like they do in petco with a closed lid, except I would put way less than they do!

And sorry for another post, but should I get the first three foods in this link...............

I am thinking of the anti-protozoan and one of the deworming ones, and maybe the immune booster flake as well, and then should I still order the other items on amazon?

sorry, here is the link

The craigslist picture you showed the fish look ok, nothing special. What turns me off on them is names the seller is creating. Hard to say what they are exactly. You need to be carefull that when/if you go there that the fish you are buying where the actual fish in the pictures. The kanaplex you linked will not complete an entire course if treatment, not sure on the metro. If you plan on being into fish for the longterm, buying in larger quatities is the way to go, and having meds on hand is much better than waiting for a crisis before acting.

Yeah, I am getting everything from the angels plus as on amazon 5 grams is $10 and on angels plus, 100 grams is $15, huge difference. But which deworming one do I need, or should I get both, I am thinking of going with the 8oz of all of them, or should i get more.

And another question, I am breeding angelfish currently, my first batch was eaten cuz I spooked them by turning the lights off(stupid me;)). I am going to artificially raise them, so I am looking for meth blue, but on angels plus says malachite green does the same thing, so which one do you recommend if you have experience or know about this, sorry for all these questions.

You want the de-worming flake, and possibly the immune booster flake. Remember that medicated flake is only good if you fish eat it, so watch them. Pretty much all thier flakes are good, so you can't go wrong. An me personally I prefer meth blue. The anti-protozoan flake is good to, but I prefer a bath to treat hex.

Okay, I will get the anti-proto, de worming, and immune booster. It says to feed them only once a day to make sure they are hungry so they eat the food,

AND, you have loaches and plecos as well - depending on what kind they are, some of these species can create problems in a discus tank as well. For sure, clown loaches are a no-no, as are some plecos, except BNP's.
Just be aware.

Why are clowns a No-no?
I have 6 with my discus and havent ahd any issues.

I see it as more of an incompatibility. The current that clown loaches relish, the highly oxygenated water they require, is not what a discus needs. Kind of like mollies and angelfish together. It can be done, but they aren't exactly perfect tankmates IMO. One good thing about clown loaches with discus is the water quality, considering how ich prone clown loaches are!

Methylene blue is a relatively harmless dye, very mild. Malachite green is a known carcinogen...so I would stick with meth blue. I don't know if alder cones would work (Google?) but many people use them as anti-fungals for eggs, particularly cory eggs.
