post this as a new thread and you will get tons of answers! Add in such info as tank size, how long its been up, what fish etc are in there, tank parameters if you know them....

Update:
After doing a 70% water change and putting the correct dosages of Pimafix and Melafix, the fish were doing much better yesterday. Most of the whitish film that was covering them fell off and they look a lot better, and i even got a chance to feed them last night. The loach seems to be fairing well, it no longer has the white film layer covering it, and finally is able to sink (before it kept floating and hanging lifelessly near the surface, now it can relax on the bottom.)

Unfortunately, after coming home from school (i forgot to check progress this morning before leaving) the whitish film layer came back, and the comets looked like crap again, what the hecks going on?!? the loach looked fine though, it wasn't floating to the top again, just sitting there on the bottom, but the fish really didn't look good, slightly better than what i saw for the first time yesterday.

Looks like im going to have to do those 50% water changes daily like one of you suggested, but i just added the medicine before checking here (stupid thing to do....) so i think later tonight i will get on it. Will the water changes as well as the medicines work in getting rid of the bad bacteria or at least under control? i don't want to see them get better then get worse everyday.

thank you for your help so far.

If an infection set it..it won't fix itself over night.

give the meds time to work and it might be a good idea to do partial changes.

are you monitoring the water?

the water changes should not affect the cycle too much..if the cycle was disturbed it needs to get back in balance.

this could take awhile to get 'fixed'. give it a week or so.

i understand, i just find it amazing that this thing will come back then go away temporarily then do the same damage again. I've applied the Melafix and Pimafix again today. Tonight my fish are hovering together near the bottom in a spot they don't normally sleep in (in fact never did). they still look like crap and still covered a bit in that whitish film too, but it could be worse (looks like its breaking off in tiny floating pieces at the same time). the fin's now definately look some what rotted and slightly damaged, but im pretty sure this is not just fit rot, but some other nasty bacteria/organism.

i will do a 50% water change tomorrow afternoon and then apply the medicine again for the next week or so, and i'll see what happens. hopefully they will get better. if not... then i heres my chance to get small tropical fish instead. i hate myself for getting 2 pond goldfish in a tiny 20 gallon tank!

again, thanks for the help so far everyone.
