Help My Jag Is Sick

hanif not to be mean or anything but shut the hey up. I look over my fish like a frecking hawk. That is my fish my first fish I really love. These sighns showed up all of a sudden I check my fish every day and night and afternoon. The only time the fish got ignored was when a family member died. Like I said earlier she was doing perfectly fine then went to being docile. If your just going to critsize me then dont write here please need to know whats up with her fins not advice from people who assume I dont pay wnough attention to my fish so back off.

Sorry Moderators just had to let it out.

Alright everyone just take a breather. No big deal. Usually white edges is just the beginning of fin rot. The introduction of two plecos may have spiked the ammonia a bit. I'd check that out. Fin rot can be nulled down by clean water and if she's as healthy as you claim she is, her immune system will put up a good fight. Sometimes really high pH can do this too, but it has to be really high. Just keep an eye on her and make sure the fins aren't getting frayed or are reducing in length.

i read a couple dozen posts a day that i dont have the slightest clue as to what the solution to the problem is. if there was a way to lurk where i could read the post without being counted, maybe it would make the poster feel better. if the poster gets 10 different opinions on what to do and none of them are right, the fish wouldnt benefit.

i think the best thing to do when fishing for help is going slow, is to cast your bait in different ponds. [ dont get me wrong. i think a/c
is a very good pond] get three different message boards looking at your problem instead of one. sooner or later some good person will have the right answer.

True but Ive tried other forums like aquahobby I had a prob with a fish my moms fish and they never answered. I bumped it back up and nothing. Ive even ask a simple question about Ick and no responce. So I stick here dont know any other good forums.

My Jag is doing good yet again the white is still there but has not grown. The temp had dropped darn heater is screwed up the dile was moved. Im going to put another filter in from my other fish tank which im putting in my garage today. Im also going to do a water channge. What is the biggest water change do you think I could do and not dityrb anything to much Ive hear the max is 20% water change but ive heard people doing as much as a 50% water change. What do you think I should do???

Getting the temp stable is really important if your fish is infact trying to fight off something. She's probably devoting alot of energy to it (that is the big IF I'm correct). As far as water changes go, I use to do 50% once every two weeks and I never had any problems. Now I do about 15-20% a week. The more you do, the more it stresses the fish, with anything over 50% being pretty nerve-wracking to them. But you want to keep your water clean too, so just give and take. I'd do around a 1/3. Good luck.

By the by, don't worry about hanif. He is just a little hyper and likes to start confrontations. It is true that your fish was under some pretty extremely adverse conditions, but she seems to be better, and the fact that you are taking care of her and willing to ask about her on a public forum shows that you know what you are doing...or are willing to find out for her good.

I actually did find out what was wrong some one tampered with the heater and the temp had dropped pretty low. I have fixed it and check like 5 times a day now. I have also put another filter in to help the water condition and I put some meds to gt rid of some ick that reappeared. She is looking good though swimming like before and getting pist of as well. So she should be ok I am also in the process of looking for tanks for sale so I could put her in a bigger tank. So all is well oh and the white on the fins has started to go away slowly but surely. Thanks alot. Got to go check fish be back in a few.
