:help: I have a marineland HOT Magnum 250 I got secondhand with a 55gal tank. The guy said he only had it for about a month. I've been using it for a couple of weeks--working fine. Today I took it down to clean it out and it tipped over on my counter. I cleaned everything out, put it back together and it doesn't work. No humming--nothing. I'm trying not to freak out but I just stocked this tank and I would really love to avoid paying another $90 to replace this thing.

I've made sure everything is in its place(full of water) but no sounds are coming from it at all when I plug it in. Did I kill it when it tipped over? It happened so fast...It landed on my hand, I remember thinking, OW! But it didn't seem to be that big of an impact.

Anyone have any ideas of what to look for? Broken somethings?

I do have a junky filter that the guy threw in that I can run in the mean time.

I've had a 10 gal freshwater tank for about 6 months and just made the switch to this big tank. Was loving it until this moment. Still kind of a newbie and worried.

I've used Magnums for years and had much worse incidents with no damage. Try pulling the impeller (the magnet with the fins on it) out and cleaning it well and use a q-tip or simillar to clean out the well that it sits in. Usually what you described will happen if a small piece of debris or sand gets caught there.

I just fixed it! I took another look at it and saw this little rubber button on the bottom motor part and thought hmm wonder what this is. I pushed it and it clicked. Hmmm plugged it in and voila! works! It is a little noisier than before so I will have to do some more investigating. Maybe I don't have one of the gaskets seated right or something. Cross my fingers and hope I don't really kill it this time.

Thanks everyone. I didn't know about aquira central before. I'll be back. My poor pet store people can take a break from my newbie questions. Now I'll bug you guys!

:)

make sure you have the impeller in there , and in right, if not nothing happens,.....

i thought i killed my fairly new hob,. but alas it was just mts snails in the impeller case holding the fins from turning....
its always something.........

geez

The little rubber button: On/Off switch.

I'm thoroughly embarassed now

Thanks for the diagram--now I know what the little mystery button is.

You would think the customer support people at Marineland would have mentioned that one. I was ready to pack it up and send it in.

Is it alive and working again?

Glad the diagramed help.

The diagram was sent to me last week when I was trying to make heads or tails of the used 250 filter I bought.
