Hello All,
I just purchased 10 cherry red shrimp at my lfs (they were only 49 cent how could i resist). I think like half of them may be pregnant. They have little yellow egg looking things in their abdomen. In some of them the eggs look darker somewhat green. Im just wondering how do i know which one are recently pregnant and which ones may be BOUT TO GIVE BIRTH?? Id appreciate any input. Thanks

49 cents each? :thud:

The closer to hatching, the more often the female will "fluff" the eggs ime. Watch her and you'll see her flip her tail and wiggle her legs...fluffing the eggs :) Helps keep water moving around the eggs and also helps disperse them when they hatch, at least that's my educated guess.
If it's a male and you're watching him fluff his eggs...well...give 'im some privacy for peat's sake!

Yup only 49 cent. I have been seein them doing alot of "fluffing". LoL i dont know that i have any male all the bigger ones are really red and the smaller ones have no color im thinkin they are young maybe??

If you look real real close, you might be able to see eyes in the eggs. If you do, they're going to hatch soon. No eyes means it'll be a while.

I've never had cherry shrimp, but if you provide some good plant cover and something to prevent them getting sucked into a filter, you should have surviving babies.
