fish keeping in AUSTRALIA
my Archer fish was added to my 6x2x2 2 days ago.
i found it lying on its side behind a plant it is still alive and it only has a slightly torn dorsil fin
it shares its tank with:
2x clown loaches
2x silver dolars
3x goldfish
1x bristlenose
does anybody know what is wrong with it?
i have it in a breeder net at the moment and it is head down tail up.

i wonder,
the fish came from a pet shop that is at sea level and it is now at 1/2 mile above sea level, i wonder if this has an affect on the fishes swim bladder

Atmospheric pressure? Could be as well as being in the small bag w/o exctra O2.

Personally I will check you water condition to see if your tank water is w/in reason for Archers. And tankmates may not be the best choice although you do have pretty large tank (180G). I love this particular tank when used to set up African Rift Valley Tank where all the rock formations are made in the center of the tank and tank is located so one can view from all four sides.

I had best luck keeping them in Terrarium type Species tank with bunch of live insects such as small roaches, small wingless flies, pinheads crawing around ion live or artificial leaves/branches in terrarium. You could use other prep fish food for them, even some prep food made for reptiles, particularly FD ones.

anyway, post your water conditions if possible and good luck!

I will assume you have Toxotes jaculatrix which is the common Archer you see in most pet stores. These are normally found in brackish estuaries. You should have a good amount of salt in the water.

I'm guessing it's suffering from osmotic shock.

so it is likely that the water is too low in salt?
if so should i add quite a bit of salt (but not enough to affect the other fish)?
