So, apparently I came home with a pregnant fish. I was adding new decor tonight and thought I saw something in the plants- one baby fish. Not sure if it is platy or a molly, but that's what I have female livebearers of. It has an orange face and blackish body, but is less than 1/8" long. I thought it was a piece of poop- way smaller than a piece of gravel. I had a 2 gallon tank with one evil guppy in that I took out and threw in the big tank, and put the baby in there instead. So far it seems to be doing ok- been in there a few hours. It has a plant that it hangs out in as well. I guess I can leave it in there, although I was hoping to take that tank down this week- how long is it going to take before it is big enough to be in with the other fish? And what should I be feeding it- crushed up fish flakes? Anything else I should be doing for it? It's so cute, and I think it must be quite the trooper because there were no other babies anywhere, and livebearers usually have several, right? This is my first "fry" ever- I've only had fish for a couple of months and appreciate any advice! Thanks!

your platy;s have done it, sounds like one anyways if you could move it so it wouldnt be eaten that would be cool, keep an eye out for more, there's possibly more

the similar thing happened to me. except it was right after vacuuming my gravel. i was checking out the job i did and i noticed this little clear thing with two eyes pop out of a plant. it was a baby. i figured that i'd let nature take it's course. well, that was 6 months ago. baby is almost as big as her mother now. she is a swordtail. all i did was feed them several small feedings a day, making sure i really crushed up some of the flakes. but i was a nervous wreck. constantly looking to make sure she was still there. slowly she started venturing out of the plant a little. then a little more. then i saw her swimming right behind her parents. i almost freaked. needless to say, she knew when it was safe to come out. but in all honesty, i can't remember how long it took. it seemed like forever but i think it was around 2 months.
