Whats the best/proper way to clean and recycle a tank?
I have a Rena XP3 on a 30 Gallon tank right now (thinking of getting a larger tank in the near future). Is it bad if a filter is too powerful for a tank? Can you "over filter" water too much?
Clean everything thoroughly, read the sticky on cycling (and apply it), get a test kit, and start right. Please research any fish you may like BEFORE you add them. Sorry for your loss.
i'm sorry bigzed.... the best way to clean a tank is to use VERY diluted bleach on everything that was in the tank (including filter, heater, gravel, everything....). Do not ever use soap cleaning a tank, it will always be toxic to fish. Make sure you rinse the bleachwater off thoroughly, but when you add your decholoronater to the water next time, it will remove any last traces of the bleach. Hookednewbie's suggestions were all good.... when you restock your tank, post any ideas you're thinking of or fish you're thinking of combining and people on here with tons of different experiences will give you their tips on everything Sorry again for your loss.... don't be discouraged though, in the meantime, a 30gallon tank is an excellent size and there are lots of good combinations out there for it! Good luck!
