I have just received a 55 gallon tank. I am so excited to set it up, but am confused on which filter I should get! It will be the home to a 2" turtle. I have looked at countless filters online and numerous sites and I am lost! I am not looking to spend hundreds of dollars on the filter as I have numerous other things to purchase for this tank also, but did not expect them to be so expensive either  . What is a good filter that is relatively cheap for a 55 gallon tank? Does more $$ really mean better?

Thank you!

You would probably want to go with a canister filter or one of those whisper in tank models. My sister has 2 turtles in a 20 gallon tank and uses a whisper 20i for the tank. Works like a charm.

I would get 3 Whisper In Tank Model 20s or 2 In Tank Model 40s. The three 20s would be better cause you can have 3 waterfalls. These things work in as little as 2 inches of water. Just build rocks up around the filter and glue them together with Epoxy glue so that they don't fall on your turtle and kill him!!! Don't glue them to the filter though cause then you will have a hard time cleaning the filter motor and impellor. Canister filters are too powerful for turtles. Also, canister filters require too much water to operate and if the water level drops, it will possibly quit.
