I have a 4-5inch oranda that is constantly swimming upside down. I have researched the problem and the best answer i can get off the internet is that it has a swim bladder problem that might be diet related. I feed my orandas "hikari" brand food. This oranda is in a 90 gallon tank along with 5 other similar sized orandas/ryukins. The suggested solution to this problem i read is to seperate the oranda and feed it cooked peas or any other soft foods. Is this what you guys or gals think i should do. I really appreciate any input from you experts. Thanks a million

I have heard that a fish will swim upside down or awkwardly if its swim bladder breaks. I don't think that there is anything you can do to fix it if that is the problem. If its the swim bladder, he will be swimming upside down all the time, not just for a little bit.

The swim bladder is used to allow the fish to keep right side up and to move vertically in your tank. The bottom half of the fish is more dense than the upper part so he swims upside down if the swim bladder isn't working right.

Hopefully its something else. And this is just what I have heard while talking to a friend. I have never had a fish like this. So hopefully, something else is wrong that can be fixed.
