HELP! PG Platy in trouble!

Well, here it is several days later and she's still big as a baby whale! She's calmer now, but still as large. Someone suggested that I squeeze her gently - were they joking!!!??? I would do most anything to help her, but that's kinda scary, I could really hurt her.

What...?? No one knows what to do for this poor little "mama-wannabe"?? She's still big, and not getting any smaller. Seems ok otherwise now - not stressed or sick, just big. Think I should just put her back in the community tank and give up on her giving birth? Hate to see the males start dogging her again though, might cause her more problems. Wish I knew what to do ... HINT, HINT, HINT...!

i'm so sorry for your plight. i don't really have any suggestions as i am pretty new to the fishkeeping hobby. i def. would NOT squeeze her though. if you did anything it would probably be something along the lines of rupturing an organ, or at the very least, helping her bowel movement. it sounds like she's just going to have to work this out on her own!

Squeezing her very VERY VERY gently could hurt (or kill) her, but it could also help her. Goldfish vets have done this before with goldfish who are egg bound. I know that platies and goldfish are VERY VERY different in the way they reproduce, but it is a possibility.

If she is still suffering, I might try squeezing very very gently and I would have clove oil on hand in case I had to quickly euthanize her.

I think I'm not brave enough to go for the squeezing method. She seems fine other than being too large. I think I'll go for the "work it out herself" method - and then help her die quickly if she just gets too sick. Otherwise I think I'll just let her set up residency in the maternity ward (think she knows that's why she's in the "quiet tank" and likes it better there??).

Okay, well I'm going to hijack this thread because it has to do with my question, it's old, and I don't want to clog up the system by creating a new thread.
One quick question. I have a pregnany dwarf platy and I was just wondering how many fry she will have when she gives birth.
Thanks!
