I've been everywhere in the area looking for a cheap hood, without success -- in fact, the two lfs didn't even have any 10 gallon hoods.

I just want an incandescent hood that'll let me pop in two compact fluorescent bulbs.

Petsmart had a Perfecto hood that looked like it was about what I need, but I couldn't tell if it would fit the bulbs.

Petco had stickers up for the right size hood by All-Glass, but none were on the shelves. An employee told me to try next week, but he didn't really look like he knew, just that he wanted me to leave him alone without having to check.

Well. . . you could measure the size of the base of the light bulb you want to use on a piece of cardboard or scrap paper . . . take it to the store . . . open the box and compare. Or take the bulb with you! I have yet to find a store that cares, as long as you don't destroy the thing without buying it.

If the hoods are hard to find, you could also try getting an inexpensive lamp from Target or Home Depot. Just make sure the socket is rated for the strength of the bulb you want to use.

walmart has cheap 10g hoods and two compact fluorescent bulbs will fit my neighbor has them on his walmart 10G tanks.

Walmart has them in theory, I haven't had any luck finding one there. :( If you grab the cfls you want and bring them to Petsmart, they should let you try them, they've let me do that before.

They're on sale at Petco, you may be able to find a free shipping coupon if you look.

I'm pretty sure the bulbs will fit, I have a similar incandescent hood on my 5 gal, and the cfls work fine.

You can get 6500k, though, usually daylight = 6500k. Like this, I'd like to use 2 of these. Or these. I might even try 1 of each, 24 watts total is about what I'd like, then it'd be similar to my other tank and I could share plants.

Do you have a hood now? I have a fluorescent one, what I'm doing is trying to get someone on craigslist selling a set to trade with me. :)
