About 3 weeks about I got some blue gouramis and put them in my ten gallong tank. Well once I put them in the tank the bigger of the two changed colors and has darkish blue tiger stripes on him and pretty spots on his tail. Well I didnt mind as he looked handsome. He is also the more agressive of the two and often chases his paler fatter tankmate around. Well yesterday I notices a weird fat grayish squiggle of discoloration that starts behind his head and ends a little behind his eye. I think it might be an open sore from running into the plants and rock int the tank when hes chasing the other fish.

Can anyone help me??

Can you answer some questions please? :)

How many gouramis?
Do you know which species?
Did you cycle the tank?
Is it filtered? Heated?
Do you have a water test kit?
If so, what brand or type?
Could you post ammonia, nitrite, nitrate readings?
How much and how often are you changing the water?
Can you get a good pic of the area?

Sounds like a crowded tank is pushing the already temperamental gouramis over the edge. Overall stress along with possible poor water quality could be underlying issues if its not just from a physical injury.

Btw, Welcome to AC!

theres only 2 gouramis they are blue dwarfs according to petco i have cycled the tank its filtered and heated and no i dont have a test kit and im changing the water by about a 1\3 of the water every week and Ill try and get a pic and post it asap.

if this discoloration turns into something that looks like cotton, then you have a fish fungus. When i bought a paradise gourami, he ended up with fish fungus. IF you could describe it, or post a picture, thatd b great.

Most "fungus" ends up being bacterial (columnaris). If you bought your fish from petco, likely you have two males which will not tolerate each other in such close quarters. Even in privately owned stores you do not see very many female dwarf gouramis, which are much more drab in appearance than the males.

I am trying to get a picture but hes camra shy. its not cotteny just gray and with a closer look its kinda jagged instead of squiggly.
