have a look at this article, albeit SW it is applicable to your situation...it seems your problem is very low alkalinity and there is some suggestions about the environment of the tank generally

thanks for the link , currently my ph is at 7.5 i've added an aerator with lots of airstones
My tank now hads nitrites. still making huge water changes.
