Help please

Don't just pour the salt into the aquarium...You want to remove a jug of water from the tank, dissolve the salt into this, and pout this back into the tank. Salt shouldn't be poured into the tank dry--it can cause problems, especially if fish decide to eat the salt granules.

Fully agreed, I didn't make that very clear. Pull out some water and dissolve the salt in it. Then pour it back in. I generally take a milk jug and a peice of hose and add the salt to the milk jug. then siphon the water back and forth by raising and lowering the milk jug until the salt is all dissolved and added to the tank. I alos tend to add very near to my filter flow areas to help disperse it quicker. As said it isn't wise to add it to the tank in granular form. Sorry for the confusion.

Alright, just a little update.

I saw a few tiny white dots on my clown loach on Aug 30.

Started treating for ich Aug 31.

Its now the third day of treatment. I have added about 100 teaspoons of salt over the last 2 days. The temp is also at 86 degrees. The only fish that have show cysts on their bodies are the original clown loach and one pictus cat. They have not shown any signs of stress yet. Eating is normal (like pigs) and they are active, not lazy. From here on i plan on keeping up with regular water changes with salt. Once the cysts disappear i will continue adding salt and keeping the temp at 86 for an additional 2-3 weeks. On the right track?

Pretty much, once all the cysts dissapear, 1-2 weeks is plenty 1 being enough 2 being overkill. the life cycle is very rapid at that temp, not to mention that 86*F is the killing point for ich with or without the salt. I never rely on tempps alone, but there is a point at which the parisites die due to the temperature.
