I'm not sure where you could get an original hood but they were a simple bent metal job like you could do using a brake and some sheet metal. The front was hinged to the hood and the ends were spot welded in. A sheet metal shop should be able to reproduce the outside fairly easily. The inside was a twin screw in receptacle so I'm not too sure you would want that. For decent lighting you would want to install a light kit anyway.

Ok! let me tell you, you guys are great. My sons 55gal sprung a leak on New Years eve. I've been following this thread, wanted to throw tank away! I calmed down got a razor blade cut out old silicone, bought GE II silicone door and window from True value. Did it, waited 24 hrs, filled with water. Still holding, not a leak! $6.99 fix, thanks for the info. I will still follow to see your end product! You can do it! Thanks

I do not know when I will be able to start working on my tank because the weather has just gotten too cold.
Well I received a reply from Geocel. After reading the reply I get the feeling they haven't tested it in this manner thus they won't support it. I don't feel like being the test subject so I'll stick with GE I. Here is the reply.

Thank you for contacting Geocel. While our 2300 sealant is nontoxic after cure, it is not recommended for under water use. During cure, the 2300 gives off a solvent, if it is used in this type of application and is not allowed to fully cure before adding water and fish the solvent that is released could be very harmful to fish or plants. While it is not an application we would cover under our offered warranty, I'm sure it have been used for the application in question.

:thumbsup: Not using it. Even though it sounds like it COULD POSSIBLY be safe after fully curing, I don't like could possibly when it comes to my fish.
