HELP: Setting up a 10gal sand tank.

I don't use a prefilter with my sand either. I just "wash" it really well when I set it up. (OK, I learned the hard way to do this, but I do it now!) Put the sand into a bucket, put in water, stir, dump off dirty water and repeat a lot of times.

It's a lot easier if you have a siphon, but stiring and dumping will work too. I don't get any of that silty floaty stuff now even when I accidently siphon up some sand. The sand that comes up into the siphon immediatly settles if I lift the siphon out of the water. And I use a python, so you know I'm picking up sand a lot!

And wow ... am I late or what??

Look around, I am sure there is a fish club in your area, and more than likely someone there raises them. I just googled Seattle fish club and came up with this. http://www.fhcrc.org/science/labs/moens/meetings_seminars/fishclub.html
Go ahead contact them, go to a few meetings, I am sure they have auctions, talke to other members, there will be a way for you to get those fish.
