Help Stocking for 20 Gallon Setup, Please Look!

hi ice cube,
my goldfish died recently too, and i had so much algae from him... i've learned lots since then, and now my lemon tetra school in the same tank has NO algae problem whatsoever. I've also planted the tank which helped. They just are not as messy as goldfish!
Oh, and the lemon tetras in the store looked so washed out, but a few weeks later their fins turned a spectacular yellow, they are beautiful now.

sounds like we are in the same boat! but i think i might get black phantom tetras instead, they look very nice!

i think my algae problem came from the Hikari algae pellets i gave the loaches (although my comet's would love to steal it from them).

Lemon Tetras are very nice looking fish. Good choice for a community tank. You might also see if you could get some Red Phantom Tetras.

well so far, i've decided on
7 Black Phantom Tetras
1 male Bristlenose Pleco
1 Apple Snail

im going to hold off on the shrimp until later, hopefully this is not too overtocked for a 20 gallon tank? if i could go for 9 tetras, that would be nice.

I think you're a bit confuzzled on the danios...

Danios may readily breed in a community tank, but it's unlikely the eggs will be fertilized, and even if they are fetilized, it's even more unlikely they will hatch into surviving fry.

The danios are pretty nifty and come in several color varieties. However, they don't really closely school anymore once they become familiar with the surroundings. Tetras would more likely form a tighter school which is cool.

Without intending to, I hatched a whole batch of danio fry -- I had a small school and they did what nature intended, I guess they didn't read the manual!! ;) Anyhow, confuzzled or not, they may breed.

Your not overstocked. You could do 10 or 12 Black Phantom Tetras.
