Hi,

4 days ago i did a water change....i have 4 angelfish and they were healthy...1 day after the water change, my black angelfish had a wound bear its gils on the body....it looks as if some disease ate away its flesh...at the same time, theres all these very tiny white dots crawling on my glass wall....theres manby of them....i wipe them away and after 2 hours they build up again....i wipe them around 3 times each day....until today my black angel fish died.....i noticed that the fish didnt have appetite for the last few days....white fluffy cotton like substance built up around the wound of my fish....
Now i chucked out my dead fish but the white dots still exist....are these 2 problems related....
How do i remove these white dots...its worrying me....

my other 3 angel fishes look fine....no holes or wounds...they do seem to eat....

even tho your remaining fish look ok you should still treat them in all likely hood they are infected as well- are there tiny white spots on the fish too?

the best treatment for all disease in my expirience is to turn you temp up to about 82-83 degree F and add salt to the water, you have to do both of these things gradually the only time i've delt with disease i put aproxamitley 1 tablespoon for every 2 gallons- i've heard of people doing more than this and in other cases less.

you will have to maintain this for about 2 weeks

this sort of disease is almost always a secondary infection- meaning that poor water conditions, or lots of stress weakened the fish in the first place.

so do a massive water change 50% or more- with angel be very careful how you add the water back in it needs to be a gentle flow- try to siphon it in and obstruct the flow with a peice of decour so the angels can be at the other side of the tank unbothered by the disrubance.

then do a 10-20% water change everyday or every other day until they have healed.

how big are your angelfish? is your tank cycled? how long have you had each fish in this tank? let me know if you have any other Q's I'll keep checking back

cheers -Kyle

i just found your other post about this-

someone told you not to worry about water changes

ANY PROBLEM IN A FISH TANK IS DILUTED BY A WATER CHANGE! almost all problems originate from something being wrong with the water.

Clean gravel is the second most likely culprit so a clean tank is THE BEST DEFENSE

i know i'm being awefully adamant but i must humbly insist that i am right about this- if nothing else

I am the one who said dont worry about a water change just yet. You did a water change then your fish got sick..... So I guess that means do another water change

You have some kind of Bacteria or Fungus in the tank. Kyle is right that poor water usually cause's fish to get sick. Simply cause they get stressed in the dirty water which lowers there imune system making it very easy to catch a disease.

What did your last waterchange consist of? How many %? What Chemicals did you add? Did you siphen gravel or just take water?

Do you have a full test kit? Do you know you PH, NitrAtes, NitrItes, Ammonia, GH, KG?

Reason is we need to findout why your fish got stressed. I would rather know why then just start doing more water changes stressing them out more.

Say your PH= 7.0, Ammonia = 0 NitrAte = 10 NitrIte = 0 GH = 4 KH = 4 Then what is a water change going to do? When need to know what the other fish died from so you can put in the right meds to get rid of the disease.

Kyle,

Glad you are on the water change boat (pun intended), it's a great place to be, but next time -- could you use a weeeeeeeeee bit smaller font, please? You almost blew my eyes out :D

thnx for ur responeses.....im pretty new...so i dnt have all the equipment for the tests and stuff....i am positive that my gravel is dirty...cos my gravel cleaner is too big and water flows out quicker than me cleaning up the gravel.....im planning to scoop up all the gravel clean it throughly and put it back in....my 3 angelfish are quite big...had them for around 6-7months...the last water change i put in Ph neutralizer and water conditioner...thats it...

don't go to all that trouble removing the gravel- for one it will deplete your colony of beneficial bacterial on the gravel

if you just bend a section of the siphon tube you can control the flow easily and if you really want to knock it down put the bend in and tie it in place with a rubberband.

presto less water flow!

(can you tell i had the same problem once ;) )
