Help! I am 13 and have 6 aquariums in my room (I love pets). I have been through breeding fish and diseases and exotic fish, the works. I have even been on websites where i was the one answering everyone elses cries for help but now i have somethin i just can't figure out! One of my male molies (accidently in female tank) one day out of the blue had what appeared to be a little fungus. I had already moved him so i quickly treated both tanks. No other fish caught anythign but this molly's fungus thing began to grow. It wasn't fungus looking anymore. Slowly the scales and flesh around the fungus spost depleted. He now has a hole in his side about 1/8th of an inch wide and i can see depth i can see layers of flesh and scales that have fallen away. Through this hole i can see a strong outline of bone. Its still getting worse! I thought that maybe a fish was attacking him in the old tank but hes pretty much all by himself now. No other spots on him. Its really gross, no blood just a evident hole in his side. Ive been monitering him. He acts like a normal fish but occasionally he scares me by sitting on the bottom for a few seconds then he quickly gets back up and speeds of like my other enerjectic fish. I really don't know wat it is! I care for him deeply, he was from my first set of babies, i just don't know wats wrong! Thankyou for your help.

perform 45% water change, dose erythromycin at 200mg per 10G every 12 hours for 2 days.

what did you use before, pimafix?

Treatment

I have changed the water. Before i used average tablets to the water and added salt. I don't have access to specialty thigns. I don't live around any specialty stores. All i have is a Wal-mart, Pet-co and Petsmart. Might they have what you mentioned there?

Erythromycin is pretty readily avail. One of those stores will have it--I use the Mardel brand--Called "Maracyn."

I think you should be a physician when you grow up! You have better documentation that most of what I read on a daily basis (I'm involved with medical coding, billing and compliance).

Anyhow, I don't know exactly what this was initially, but it sounds like an external infection now. Def. dose as previously posted and good luck.

Thankyou, a physician is an interesting choice. I am actually looking into Marine Biology. Oh yes I did forget to mention something. before the fungus thier was a lump on his side. I thought it was a tumor or something because i lost some of his brothers and sisters to something like a tumor when they were younger but nothing like what this one has now. Its been going on for a month or so and ive been trying everything i can. Thanks for all the help Im getting!

that was cute, kblane, and a good compliment to Cabba :) You sound a lot like me when I was that age.

I'm currently a graduate student in Marine Bio (Ichthyology, to be exact) and your detailed documentation would help in that field, too. If you're doing research, it really helps to have all the steps written down for your own reference, and also so someone in the future can tell exactly what you did and pick up where you left off.

sorry, I don't have any suggestions for treating your poor molly, since I've never had anything that bad. Just wanted to share a little about my experience as a Marine Biologist-to-be. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me :)
