I have been searching the net for help with my marine tank. We have ran our salt water tank for 10 years now with no problems until lately. We lost our fish a few months ago and have 4 blue damsels and a clown fish left. Every time we try to add a new fish it lasts a few days and dies. They get some type of film on thier entire body which covers thier eyes and everything and within a day of getting the film they die. We have done all our water tests and changes and are at a loss here. Yet the damsels and the clown are fine. The fish also loses all its color at the same time.

Please help

i Have had something familiar to that. but i dont know exactly cause you didnt go into more detail. but i had ich its it actually did the same thing to their eyes but they didnt die in a day. so i treated it like ich i went and bought an ich treatment safe for reefs called Kick-Ich made by Ruby Reef. but i dont think what you have is ich though.

Welcome to Aquaria Central! What types of fish are you buying? I can guarentee you that one BIG problem is your tank is currently stocked with bullies. Damsels and Clowns are not always the nicest to new additions which is why it is best to add them last. You might if you have a qt tank put the clowns and damsels in there, add some fish and see how they do. The body covering sounds like marine velvet. It can be a little more deadly than ich. Anyway I would suggest if you have another tank, removing the current inhabitants, letting it run empty for 3 weeks (life cycle for most common bacterias, ich, velvet, etc) and then try adding some new fish. Sorry for your trouble and good luck! Anyway hope this helps.

thank you for your replies someone mentioned Brooklynella which from what I have read could be it. I was told it wasn't affecting the damsels and the clown fish or the scooter blenny because they have a thicker slime coat. It was suggested to me to use ruby reef rally in my tank. I have ordered some but it will take a few days to get here. Do you know of anyone that has used it before with good results.

It does indeed sound like Brooklynellosis, but if it is, your clownfish is certainly not immune. You will need to take quick action to solve this, and be sure to use a quarantine tank for all new arrivals for 3-4 weeks. Here's more info, notice the first photo:
