HELP..White cotton on my otto

One of my ottoes has a white cotton looking fungus next to one of his gills and I am not sure what it is.Does anyone know how to get rid of it.I know its not ick because it looks like a small Q-tip stuck to the side of his head and not the little ick dots.

Could be columnaris. Try googling to see if you come across any pictures. How recently were the otos added? Any other fish in the tank? What are your water parameters? If it is columnaris, I treat with daily 50% water changes and salt (which is actually for ich, but since I've always had the two together, I can't say whether or not the salt is important for the columnaris--can't hurt, though).

My best guess would be to add salt. Salt seems like a cure all in regards to external nasties.
