The higher the light, usually the less light getting to the bottom. But given the height of the legs and the depth of a 29 gal. it shouldn't have an issue.

i would definately use t5 lights. they are awesome and you get more bang for your buck. i have a 29 gallon too and have noticed that there isnt many companies that make the 30" t5 fixtures. but coral life does. i would just go with that. and bulbs should be in the 6500-10000K range. my bulbs are all 6700k
