I have 2 African Clawed Frogs which are totally aquatic and both female. And as my signature says they are both in the same 5 gallon tank. They have both been doing fine for a year now at 64degrees water temp, because they are in my basement. They are very inactive though, and i wonder if heating it to say... 74degrees would make them more active. they are 4 and 6 years old and would the change in water of ten degrees stress them too much? Should I get a 25 watt heater if I plan to heat the tank, or will that be enough, seeing as water is at 64degrees in my basement?????

I would appreciate answers to any or all of these questions if you can help

64 may be too cold for them so they are inactive.

There shouldnt be any reason you couldnt use a heater, but make dang sure to secure around it so they dont jump ooy.

I hear of people having the frogs with freshwater fish and almost all freshwater tanks have water in the 70's.

Take a day or two to raise the temp, do it slowly and they should be fine.

Those frogs will require a much larger tank when they're adults. They will be 6-7+ inches when full grown.

I believe Oriongirl has kept them before...

Yeah, thoes suckers get as big as a fist, and will eat any fish they can fit in their mouth... but they are alone so i guess that isnt a problem. If they are 4 and 6 years old wouldnt they be full grown? maybe the tank is too small.. do they look cramped?

Didn't see how old they were. They sound stunted, perhaps. Is there anyway you can upgrade to a 20g for them?

didnt think that they could be stunted...
maybe i will upgrade to a 20gallon when i can afford it

Males get about 5 inches, females can get 10.
