Help With BigAls Order

Do not buy the gloves!! I had those thinking the same way you did (but not with lotion but car grease). They are meant for dealing with dangerous corals and poisonous fish. The hands are too thick to feel anything when working in the tank - but that was for me and I already have 60% loss of feeling in my hands to begin with.

However, if you just want something while your hand is in the tank siphoning up gravel - they will work. Anything that requires feel - these are NOT your gloves.

A python is great to have - especially for larger tanks. Any python dirivitive (sp) attaches to a device which attaches to the sink via its threads (part with black oring on the left). This device is what creates the presussure to siphon water through the input/ouput part of the pump(on the right). The tubing attaches to the input/ouput of the pump via this device. Then the tubing attaches to the gravel vac. I like smaller gravel vac tubes because you can get into smaller areas without moving things aroundso much - but this means your arm is in the tank - not a problem for me. I always buy more feet than I need because you never know how many more tanks you will get and where they will be :p:

Edit - hurricanejedi - I love your avatar!!!

Good Luck

I dunno...might wanna look at a bigger eheim too...I read where manufacturers specs on the cannisters were overrated. I have a 55 gal and was gonna get the 2215 but stepped up to the 2217 and couldnt be happier...its veryyyyyyyyy quiet...almost silent. Also you might want a thermometer too.

I love you avatar too! My favorite part in that whole movie! The girl in my avatar was about 6 months in that picture, she's now 9 months old.

Ok so if I get these things will I be all set (I'm thinking 20' is PLENTY big and want to save some hassle as Home Depot is a foreign land to me and if I ever do need more it shouldn't be a problem. I intend on setting this tank up and leaving it there for a couple years until we move unless I move it to its optimal location which is actually closer to the sink).
10" Python Gravel Tube
20' Extension Tubing

What do other people think about the canister size? It says the 2213 is good for up to 65G. The 2215 is good for 95G and the 2217 is good for 160G. There is a very large price difference between these. I obviously like the cheapest but if it really isn't good for my aquarium I want to know.

Yes its $14.99 on sale and then another $7.50 for the heavy shipping. So I still fall within the in-store price range. Theres a thread in the plant forum trying to find the best online place for this stuff and everyone thinks bigals might be the best.

Oh boy! You guys are hurting me with the canister but if its worth it I will make the upgrade :P .

Ok my shopping cart is at $227!! Yikes! I think I'll drop the gravel and find something cheaper locally.... I just really liked it...

Jedi,
I just followed you over here from the plant forum. Quite a response you're getting today! Heck, I followed you! :)

Um, I just wanted to say that if you really like the look of the Eco-Complete and you already have one bag, you should definitely buy the balance for your tank. If there's one thing I'm dealing with right now it's replacing the "compromise" stuff I bought when I started my tank about a year ago with the stuff that I want, like Eco-Complete. Just my .02

I'm not going to place the order right off so this is the one item I'm certainly going to think about. I think I will also call every fish store in Raleigh to see what they have. I've been to many but there still could be a few I missed. I don't feel like driving to every one of them though so a phone call might be more productive.

Aren't you better off with a diff substrate if you're going to have plants, like that flourite stuff?
